This past Friday and Saturday, I attended the TechXplosion Conference hosted by TRG in Clearwater. TechXplosion is a Church Tech conference, designed to put church tech's in contact with pro AV companies, and to offer training and networking. I was excited to learn that ProCo was one of the companies represented at the conference. I'd read about how ProCo had a new personal monitoring and digital snaking products, and had provided wireless in-ear-monitoring to the David Crowder* Band on their last tour.
I introduced myself to the guys at the table, and explained that I was interested in learning more about their products, and that I'd heard of them in connection with DCB. The rep I was talking to immediately got excited, and said, "you've got to meet Thom! He's the one who toured with the band!" OK, lets meet Thom...
Turns out, Thom was working with ProCo back in 2006, and his boss tells him, "Thom, you need to familiarize yourself with the 'house of worship' market". This really didn't interest Thom, as he was not a believer. However, he was passionate about his products, so he attended the 2006 Arts Conference at Willow Creek Community Church, where it just so happens that DCB was performing.
Thom attended a concert featuring the band, and he noticed that he felt rather odd. He was physically uncomfortable, like a sick stomach, and emotionally, something was just wrong. He described the feeling as "hollow, like a hole in his heart".
Thom emailed the band, explaining that he worked for ProCo, and wanted to demo some new gear for the band, but also, he explained how hollow the music made him feel. 30 minutes later, he recieved a personal response from Dave (how cool is that?)
Dave arranged to meet with Thom, and his wife over dinner. Dave was bothered by Thom's description of how the music made him feel. Dave offered the explanation that perhaps the music made him feel "full", not "empty" and having never really feeling full before, had mistaken the two. This really made sense to Thom, and Dave discussed with him how God was working on Thom's heart during the concert.
Thom is now a passionate believer, and is still in contact with Dave, who is mentoring him (that is so awesome!) There was so much fire, and passion in Thom's eyes as he shared his testimony with me. I thank God for Thom, and for his awesome testimony. I'm excited to see what God has in store for Thom's life as a new believer.
I think it speaks volumes about Dave, that despite a very hectic touring schedule, that he is totally about the people. The world needs more folks like that.
