Attending the Willow Creek Arts conference (Arise) in Chicago.
Today has been amazing so far. The Willow worship team lead worship this morning, Nancy Beach lead us through Psalm 40 vs 1-10 with a creative collage of drama, dance, video, and story telling.
We came back in session two to see flamenco dancers; a 14 year old violin player that was amazing, and a "battle of the bands" using the video game "rockband".
We listened to Giles Ste-Croix, creative force begind Cirque De Soleil talk about Cirque's creative process, which lasts often over three years as they prepare a new show. He said something pretty profound regarding the creative process... "the process is very organic, and extremely fragile. It is based on all the team members working together". I think I needed to be reminded that evening a group as big, and distinguished as Cirque still considers their process "fragile".
Robbie Seay Band kicked off the next session, with several worship songs. Not familiar with his music, but I'll definitely have to check him out on iTunes. Now sitting and listening to Brian McClaren talking about his new book "Everything Must Change".
Headed to see "Wicked" this evening, really stoked about this show. I've heard the lighing and staging is amazing.
BTW - the staging here at the conference is really creative, lots of spandex stretches, and some really cool fabric covered truss. I'll post photos later.
