I've been busy all week preparing for the production that opens this coming Friday. Here's a brief run down of some the highlights from the week...
Sunday
Stripped the stage after the last service. Lots of volunteers made this big project go very quickly. All the instruments were removed from the stage. All the stage decking was broken down and stored. Every mic and cable on stage was pulled, and stored. Cables were put in place and gaffed down for the new band positions. The set construction team arrived and began putting the set pieces in place. Once the set was in place, we will not be able to access the floor pockets. I hope we didn't forget any cords :)
Monday
Kind of a "Hurry up and wait" sort of day. Couldn't get to the stage to reset the band, as the construction team was still building, so worked on office stuff, and planning for the production.
Tuesday
Lighting Day. The lift arrives, and I head to church to pick up the maintenance van, and drive to Tampa to retrieve the rented moving lights, and lots of light bulbs for our burnt out fixtures. Back from tampa about mid day. Unpacking, patching, and addressing the fixtures. Lots of interruptions this day, I don't recall what, but by 5pm, we're finally ready to hang lights. All the fixtures go up, all have power, the bulbs are working and all are receiving dmx; unfortunately, none of them are responding to the console. Dang it! Oh well, we'll work on it the next day. Today's gaff - I hand the rental house my credit card to pay for the moving light rental. they tell me my card declined, and I realize I'd handed them my personal debit card DOH! switch cards, ok, that transaction was approved.
Wednesday
Audio day. First sound checks with the band tonight. Resetting band instruments, cords, mics. Rented wireless shows up today. One minor gaff. During rehearsal, while tryig to patch the CD to the aviom in ear system. I manage to connect the CD directly to the mains, overwriting some rather important patching.
Thursday
Lots of random "odds and ends" type stuff today. Got the moving lights working. Audio contractor arrives to help with some projects (tie lines, repairs, etc.) More patching, setting up monitor wedges, etc. Figuring out wireless comms for backstage. The decided they wanted two way radios with earsets this year, rather than wired clearcom. Can't say that I blame them. Another rehearsal tonight, things go pretty smooth. I spend most of the rehearsal running around working on projects while uber volunteer Kevin runs sound.
Friday
Dr's appt in the morning, then met a friend for Starbucks. I was planning on taking Friday off, but decided there was entirely too much to get done, so went in for a half day. Setting up more audio stuff, working on the cast wireless. Edited a short video for the weekend services advertising Rosies. Today's minor gaff was while blowing out projector filters up on the lift, I managed to leave my leatherman sitting on top of the projector. Didn't realize the mistake till the lift was put up, and all the chairs were back in place. I'll get it after the weekend.
